Visiting La Linea
Essential tips for planning your trip to La Linea de la Concepcion.
When to Visit
La Linea enjoys over 300 days of sunshine. Summer (June to September) is hot, around 30 degrees. Spring and autumn are ideal for sightseeing. Winter is mild, rarely below 10 degrees.
Getting Around
The city centre is compact and walkable. The border to Gibraltar is a five-minute walk. Local buses connect to Algeciras and nearby towns. Taxis are affordable for longer trips.
Budget Tips
Staying here instead of Gibraltar saves 30 to 50 percent on accommodation. Many tapas bars still serve a free tapa with each drink. Markets offer great value for picnic supplies.
Visiting Gibraltar
Walk across the border with your passport. The upper Rock nature reserve has an entry fee. Cable car or minibus tours available. Plan half a day minimum, a full day for tunnels and caves.
Day Trips
Tarifa (30 min): windsurfing, ferry to Morocco. Ronda (90 min): dramatic gorge town. Cadiz (2 hours): historic coast. Seville (2.5 hours): flamenco and Alcazar.
Language
Spanish with an Andalusian accent. English widely understood near the border. Hotel staff generally speak some English. A few Spanish phrases will be appreciated.
